Animal Repellent

While out walking, hiking, camping or just going about your daily activities, it always pays to vigilant for people who might be looking to harm you. It is also a good idea to be aware of animals that may harm you as well.

Unlike people, animals are not usually intentionally looking to harm a human being. It usually happens more innocently. Unless a dog has been trained to attack people, or has been mistreated and gets loose and displays a high level of aggressiveness, it is more likely a person unwittingly goes into what the dog perceives as it’s territory. At that moment, the animal will then want to defend it.

Regardless of why the dog displays aggressive behavior, at that point you need to stop it. Immediately. Canine repellent is an excellent solution because it is fast, it is effective and it will not permanently harm the dog. It is made from the same hot peppers that go into pepper spray for humans so the same things occur upon contact- watering eyes and difficulty breathing. The dog will stop coming at you.

You can also use an ultrasonic repellent, which uses a high decibel, high pitched noise that is too high for humans to hear- yet will cause the dog to want to get away from the sound.

Bears can be provoked the same way- trying to defend what it may perceive as an encroachment upon their territory or if they are startled. Again, you must get the bear to stop doing anything aggressive against you- you can be seriously mauled or even killed in a matter of seconds. Bear repellent will cause the same reaction in bears as it does in dogs and humans. And again, any discomfort is temporary- but it will last long enough for you get away.
